Recent studies show nearly half of all adults have some degree of gum disease. Although some periodontal treatments can be invasive or ineffective, The Perio Tray® by Perio Protect® is a simple treatment that reaches where your toothbrush, floss and mouthwash can’t.

Perio Protect is a comprehensive periodontal treatment approach that combines professional cleanings with effective, at-home treatment. The Perio Tray is similar to a mouthguard but it has a special sealing system to deliver medication below the gum line. You simply put the medication in the tray and wear it for 15 minutes one to 4 times a day between office visits—it’s that easy.

Not only is this approach easy to use, it treats the bacteria causing your gum disease in a comfortable way, minimizing the need for surgery and antibiotics.

Bacteria reproduce quickly under the gums, making it difficult to control between office visits. Research shows that when professional cleanings are combined with Perio Tray delivery of hydrogen peroxide gel, patients get better results than the cleanings alone. The Perio Tray is designed specifically to combat bacteria and supplement in-office treatment, helping you keep gum disease under control.

(NOTE TO OUR PATIENTS:  Some other benefits of the Perio Protect Tray system are fresher breath and whiter teeth.  If you have bad breath that is cause by an unhealthy mouth, the Perio Protect system kills many of the bacteria that cause that bad breath.  If you have wanted to whiten/bleach your teeth, the gel used is similar to tooth bleaching gel and over time almost always whitens the teeth, it just does so slowly.  Perio Protect is a wonderful system but is not right for everyone.  If you have fillings &/or crowns that are visible, they will not whiten so as your teeth slowly whiten, the restorations may not look good.   As for how many Perio Protect treatments you need, it depends on how deep your pockets are.  On average, you need to complete two or four at home treatments a day to treat your periodontal disease.  We will know after 6 months of use how well the treatment will work for you.  As for insurance coverage, this is a relatively new procedure and insurance companies are slow to include this type of treatment in their plans.)
